Plant Sale Details
LAURITZEN GARDENS PLANT SALE
Located on the festival garden lawn  

Members-Only Plant Sale – Friday, May 14
  
                                    4:30 to 7 p.m.

Plant Sale open to the public – Saturday, May 15 and Sunday, May 16
                                          
9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
 


Lauritzen Gardens will be offering the following:

Annuals – black-eyed Susan, assorted canna, celosia, fiber optic grass, impatiens, petunias, purple fountain grass, purple hyacinth bean, tropical hibiscus and more. Some annuals will be available in hanging flower bags.

Perennials – astilbe, columbine, coral bells, Lenten rose, ornamental grasses, salvia, sea holly and more.

Herbs and Vegetables – gourds, hyssop, lavender, melons, peppers, pumpkins, squash, tomatoes and more.

**Available listed plants are limited and all are subject to change up until the date of the sale. Addiitonal plants not yet listed will also be available.

Benson Plant Rescue - recycles overstock plants from area retailers and local gardeners. They sell a wide variety of perennials, grasses, roses, shrubs and trees. Proceeds raised by this all-volunteer organization benefits the Omaha Public Library.

The Big Garden - a network of community gardens located in Omaha, Neb., focused on empowering neighbors to grow nutritious food, build community relationships, create safe neighborhood spaces and develop healthy lifestyles.

Hitchcock Nature Center - exists to develop and foster appreciation and understanding of the Loess Hills as a globally significant landform through land management, environmental education and low impact recreation.

Ikebana International: Omaha Chapter #60 - Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangement. The club always welcomes new members and promotes friendship and flowers. To learn more or join, call Omaha Chapter President Verla Shaner at 492-9366.

Nebraska Daylily Society - promotes daylilies and vies to educate people to recognize the hardiness and many beautiful colors that are available.

Nebraska Sierra Club - founded in 1973, the NSC is the state affiliate of America's oldest, largeset and most influential environmental organization. With a 2,000-member grassroots network, and the only full-time environmental lobbyist at the state house, it is the prominent voice to conserve air, water and food for future generations in Nebraska.

Nebraska Statewide Arboretum - designed to create a network of arboretums in Nebraska where plants could be grown and displayed "to enrich lives through the beauty and wonder of plants." What resulted was the founding of an arboretum unlike any in the world, a remarkable network of arboreta, parks, historic properties and other public landscapes accessible and relevant to citizens across Nebraska. For more than three decades, NSA has provided plant and landscape information and publications, worked to promote rare trees and plants and underutilized native plants, and inspired gardeners all across the Great Plains.

Providing educational materials.

Omaha Rose Society - a local group dedicated to growing roses was formed in 1955 and is an active member of the American Rose Society. ORS is currently engaged in a test-site project called EARTH-KIND. The EARTH-KIND test garden at Lauritzen Gardens joins the largest center of test gardens in the Midwest. This project, conducted with Master Gardeners, tests water and pesticide-friendly roses and reports results.

ReTree Nebraska - a 10-year cooperative initiative to raise public awareness of the value of trees, reverse the decline of Nebraska's community tree and forest resources and improve the health and sustainability of community trees and forests across our state for future generations. The primary goal of ReTree Nebraska is to work in partnership with people across Nebraska to foster the proper planting and maintenance of 1 million new trees by 2017.

Shady Choice Hosta Society - a society of shade-loving plants.

South Omaha Horticulture Society - a general garden club that meets on the last Friday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the extension office at which a speaker presents on a garden topic. The group's big project is to maintain the Bailey Wye garden at the zoo.
