MARCH

Lil' Sprouts: Wiggly Worms
Preschool program
Wednesday, March 10 AND Thursday, March 11
10 to 11:30 a.m.
Worms may squirm in your hand, but they have a very important job in the garden. We will read a worm story, explore where worms live, eat and sleep, and make a worm farm to take home. This program is designed for children ages three to five and one accompanying adult.

Super Seeds Fun!
Preschool program
Wednesday, March 24 OR Thursday, March 25
1 to 2:30 p.m.
Have fun learning about seeds! We will learn how seeds grow and look at seeds of all shapes, sizes and colors. Join us as we go on a seed safari in the garden where we will search for seeds and big plants that were once tiny seeds. This program is designed for children ages three to five and one accompanying adult.
$8/member, $14/non-member

Garden Explorers: Hatching Seeds
Children's program
Saturday, March 27
2 to 4 p.m.
Get ready, get set, grow! Now is the perfect time to start seeds indoors. Come discover how a tiny seed can grow into a big plant. This class will explore the smallest to the largest seed, explain what seeds need in order to grow and where in the garden they should be planted. Explorers will then plant their own egg carton of seeds to grow at home. This program is designed for children ages six to nine.

APRIL

Lil' Sprouts: Raindrops and Rainbows
Preschool program
Wednesday, April 7 OR Thursday, April 8
10 to 11:30 a.m.
Rain, rain come today … we are ready to learn and play! Rainy days are the perfect time to go on a rainbow hunt. Enjoy a rainbow story, make a rain stick, and share a colorful snack while learning about spring rain and how plants use water to grow. This program is designed for children ages three to five and one accompanying adult.

Nature Detectives: Scopin' It Out
Children's program
Saturday, April 10
2 to 4 p.m.
Grab your journals, and discover the science under the microscope. Detectives will spend the afternoon learning what goes on inside tulip bulbs and other plant tissues that are planted around the garden. This program is designed for children ages nine to 12.
$10/member, $13/non-member

Tulip Fun!
Preschool program
Wednesday, April 21 OR Thursday, April 22
1 to 2:30 p.m.
Spring is here, and the garden is filled with chirping birds, green grass and tons of tulips! We will explore the garden looking for signs of spring and make our own bouquet of tulips to take home. Come tiptoe through the tulips in this fun class! This program is designed for children ages three to five and one accompanying adult.

Garden Explorers: Worms
Children's program
Saturday, April 24
2 to 4 p.m.
Have fun getting dirty while exploring the underground world of worms. Each Explorer will make his or her own worm bin complete with pet red worms to take home. This program is designed for children ages six to nine.

MAY

Lil' Sprouts: Groovy Grass
Preschool program
Wednesday, May 5 OR Thursday, May 6
10 to 11:30 a.m.
Have you ever gotten a grass stain on your pants and wondered why it was so green? Come learn all about grass, how plants make their own food and why they are green. We will create a grass pet, explore the garden and munch on some green snacks. This program is designed for children ages three to five and one accompanying adult.

Nature Detectives: The Underground World
Children's program
Saturday, May 8
2 to 4 p.m.
Let us dig in and get the scoop on soils! Detectives will collect samples for microbial investigation, measure pH levels and check for moisture retention. Be sure to wear clothes that can get dirty. Nature Detectives never forget their nature journals! This program is designed for children ages nine to 12.

Dandlion Fun!
Preschool program
Wednesday, May 19 OR Thursday, May 20
1 to 2:30 p.m.
Guess what is popping up everywhere outside? Dandelions! Join us for a dandelion hunt, and learn how the dandelion got its name. We will enjoy a dandelion story, make a dandelion craft and have a spring snack. This program is designed for children ages three to five and one accompanying adult.

Garden Explorers: Sowing the Garden
Children's program
Saturday, May 22
2 to 4 p.m.
Attention little green thumbs: We need your help in setting the stage for a beautiful display of foliage in the children’s garden at Lauritzen Gardens. Explorers will plant the vegetable garden and then return to the classroom for a few tasty treats. This program is designed for children ages six to nine.

JUNE

Garden Arts for All
Children's program
Saturday, June 5, 12, 19 and 26
10 to 11:30 a.m.
This summer, use your green thumb to create art! Creative instructors from Arts for All, Inc. will teach children about a myriad of art forms from creative writing and film making to art and dance during this four-week series. This series is designed for children ages five to nine.
$65/member, $75/non-member for the series

Lil' Sprouts: Toadily Frogs
Preschool program
Wednesday, June 9 OR Thursday, June 10
10 to 11:30 a.m.
Leap into this fun class, and learn all about frogs! From the lily pad to the garden, frogs are everywhere. We will learn where frogs live, how they grow and even what they eat. Get ready to have an un-frog-ettable time as we read a frog story, look for frogs in the garden and make our own frog to take home. Be sure to wear green! This program is designed for children ages three to five and one accompanying adult.

Nature Detectives: Nature's Lunchbox
Children's program
Saturday, June 12
2 to 4 p.m.
Do you know that some plants and critters are vegetarian while others prefer to add meat to their diets? No, we do not mean hamburgers and hot dogs, but instead, insects such as flies and ants. Nature Detectives will set out on a garden expedition, learning how to spot the herbivores, omnivores and carnivores of the garden. We will record observations of garden food chains and each Detective will take home his or her own carnivorous plant. (Remember to feed it!) Get ready; this is sure to be one sticky adventure! This program is designed for children ages nine to 12.

Turtle Fun!
Preschool program
Wednesday, June 23 OR Thursday, June 24
1 to 2:30 p.m.
Come have fun learning about turtles! We will explore the garden looking for our turtle friends, read a turtle story and make our own turtle to take home. Let us see if the little turtle will come out of its shell on this fun day. This program is designed for children ages three to five and one accompanying adult.

Garden Explorers: Garden Safari
Children's program
Saturday, June 26
2 to 4 p.m.

Grab your safari hat as we hunt for elephant ears, porcupine flower, lion’s ear and even unicorn plant growing in the garden! During our expedition, we will track down evidence of "wild" flowers invading the prairie. Explorers will be equipped with their own decorated hiking sticks for this adventure. Keep your eyes on the trail – it’s a jungle out there! This program is designed for children ages six to nine.
$10/member, $13/non-member





REGISTRATION AND CANCELLATION INFORMATION

Sign Up Early!
Our programs fill quickly. Classes are subject to minimum and maximum enrollment, so please register at least one week in advance. Additional students are not added to sold-out courses, however, we will place your name on a waiting list and notify you if there is a cancellation. 

After You Register

We will contact you the week of the program to confirm your enrollment. 

 

Please dress accordingly to the weather for all outdoor programs. No rain or snow dates are planned. 

 

Upon arrival at the garden, please check in at the admission desk. Classroom doors are open one half-hour before starting time. 

 

Program registration includes admission to the garden for the entire day of the class. 

 

Children or guests who are not registered for the program will not be allowed into the class or garden without garden admission or program registration. Children’s programs, with the exception of programs for 3- to 5-year-olds, do not include adult admission to the garden. 

 
Refunds and Cancellations

If you must cancel your registration for a program, your registration fees will be refunded if notice is received at least one week before the program. 

 

Courses with insufficient registration are sometimes cancelled. If a class is cancelled, you will be notified by phone as early as possible. Full refunds are given for classed cancelled due to insufficient registration.
