JUNE 

Nature Detectives: Nature's Lunchbox
Children's program

2 to 4 p.m.
Do you know that some plants and critters are vegetarian while others prefer to add meat to their diets? No, we do not mean hamburgers and hot dogs, but instead, insects such as flies and ants. Nature Detectives will set out on a garden expedition, learning how to spot the herbivores, omnivores and carnivores of the garden. We will record observations of garden food chains and each Detective will take home his or her own carnivorous plant. (Remember to feed it!) Get ready; this is sure to be one sticky adventure! This program is designed for children ages nine to 12.

Turtle Fun!

Wednesday, June 23 OR Thursday, June 24
1 to 2:30 p.m.
Come have fun learning about turtles! We will explore the garden looking for our turtle friends, read a turtle story and make our own turtle to take home. Let us see if the little turtle will come out of its shell on this fun day. This program is designed for children ages three to five and one accompanying adult.

Garden Explorers: Garden Safari

2 to 4 p.m.
Grab your safari hat as we hunt for elephant ears, porcupine flower, lion’s ear and even unicorn plant growing in the garden! During our expedition, we will track down evidence of "wild" flowers invading the prairie. Explorers will be equipped with their own decorated hiking sticks for this adventure. Keep your eyes on the trail – it’s a jungle out there! This program is designed for children ages six to nine.

JULY

Lil' Sprouts: Bug Zoo

Come meet the bugs living at Lauritzen Gardens! Do you know that some bugs are friends to plants while others are enemies? We will go on a bug hunt, read a bug story and build a bug condo for you to observe bugs at home. Get ready to "buggy" down in this fun program. This program is designed for children ages three to five and one accompanying adult.

Mommy and Me: Rainbows 
Preschool program
Saturday, July 3 
9:30 to 11:30 a.m. 
Delight in learning about rainbows and how they are formed. Enjoy exploring the many colors of the rainbow, and make your very own colorful Play-Doh to take home with you. Activities are designed for an adult (not just mommy!) and children ages three to five. (Please, no more than two children, including siblings, per adult.)

Garden in Motion

Join youth art instructor Inna Kulagina as we look to the Garden for inspiration. Children will create art in motion as they sculpt mobiles and silk paint flags to be displayed in the children's garden. This series is designed for children ages six to 12.

Fun with Florals: Buggy about Flowers

Mommy and Me: Grass

Enjoy learning about grass while reading a fun story and makig your own grass head to take home with you. We will learn about the structure and texture of grass and how much fun it is to play in! Flutter...flutter... fly on in! Do you know where a dragonfly sleeps or what it eats? We will discover the answers to these questions and more as we learn all about dragonflies. Be ready to spread your wings in this fun class while reading a dragonfly sotry, making your own dragonfly and going on a dragonfly hunt. Garden Explorers: Harvesting Herbs

Help! Cold nights are fast approaching, and the sweet smells of summer are disappearing quickly. Join us in the harb garden as we harness the fragrances of herbs and turn them into a wonderful wintertime treat for our nost. This program is designed for children ages six to nine.

Sunflower Fun!

Which is taller, you or a sunflower? Learn the answer to this question and more as we study sunflowers. We willread a sunflower story, amke a sunflower snack. Get ready to stand tall in this fun class! This program is designed for children ages three to five and one accompanying adult.

After You Register

We will contact you the week of the program to confirm your enrollment. 

Please dress accordingly to the weather for all outdoor programs. No rain or snow dates are planned. 

Upon arrival at the garden, please check in at the admission desk. Classroom doors are open one half-hour before starting time. 

Program registration includes admission to the garden for the entire day of the class. 

Children or guests who are not registered for the program will not be allowed into the class or garden without garden admission or program registration. Children’s programs, with the exception of programs for 3- to 5-year-olds, do not include adult admission to the garden. 

 
Refunds and Cancellations

If you must cancel your registration for a program, your registration fees will be refunded if notice is received at least one week before the program. 

Courses with insufficient registration are sometimes cancelled. If a class is cancelled, you will be notified by phone as early as possible. Full refunds are given for classed cancelled due to insufficient registration.
