The Shady Side of Gardening

Yoga in the Garden

Enjoy the beauty and tranquility of Lauritzen Gardens while learning basic yoga poses, sun salutations and breathing techniques in this five-week session. Open to all skill levels, this class will allow you to unwind and increase your flexibility and strength while connecting with nature. The class will be led by Theresa Murphy, RYT, owner/director of One Tree Yoga. Please, wear comfortable clothing. All are encouraged to bring a mat, two blocks, a belt and a blanket. Classes will be held outside, weather permitting.

Native Wildflowers

Celebrate Nebraska Wildflower Week by learning about our native wildflowers with two local authors. The instructors, Roland Barth and Neal Ratzlaff, are co-authors of Field Guide to Wildflowers, a thorough pictorial reference of the wildflowers of Fontenelle Forest and Neale Woods Nature Center. In this informative class, you will learn about woodland, wetland and prairie wildflowers. A portion of the class will be spent outdoors exploring the wildflower areas with Barth and Ratzlaff.

Nature Photography

Join local nature photographer Bill Swinarski of Swinarski Photography as he "develops" the secrets of garden photography. He will share tips and techniques for taking beautiful photographs in the outdoor garden. The first half of the class will be focused on tips and techniques in the classroom. Participants will then explore the garden during the second half, photographing several botanical subjects. Please, bring your digital or film camera; macro lenses are encouraged.

REGISTRATION AND CANCELLATION INFORMATION
Sign Up Early!
Our programs fill quickly. Classes are subject to minimum and maximum enrollment, so please register at least one week in advance. Additional students are not added to sold-out courses, however, we will place your name on a waiting list and notify you if there is a cancellation.
After You Register
We will contact you the week of the program to confirm your enrollment.
Please dress accordingly to the weather for all outdoor programs. No rain or snow dates are planned.
Upon arrival at the garden, please check in at the admission desk. Classroom doors are open one half-hour before starting time.
Program registration includes admission to the garden for the entire day of the class.
Children or guests who are not registered for the program will not be allowed into the class or garden without garden admission or program registration. Children’s programs, with the exception of programs for 3- to 5-year-olds, do not include adult admission to the garden.
Refunds and Cancellations
If you must cancel your registration for a program, your registration fees will be refunded if notice is received at least one week before the program.
Courses with insufficient registration are sometimes cancelled. If a class is cancelled, you will be notified by phone as early as possible. Full refunds are given for classed cancelled due to insufficient registration.
